No 4 - Goofy - is a typical small contractor’s locomotive of class
RL1b, manufactured by Orenstein & Koppel A.G. of Berlin, Germany and assembled in the UK by William Jones Ltd of London under licence.
This loco is fitted with one of the maker’s own single-cylinder crude
oil engine of 11hp. Starting is accomplished with the aid of a lighted fuse paper.
This example was assembled in about 1936 for an unknown customer, but
was later with the contractors J.L. Kier & Co. Ltd of Setch, near King’s Lynn.
It reached the Norwich scrap yard of C.T. Dawson by about 1958 and
later lost its gearbox and driving chains, which were fitted into a crane. The loco was purchased for preservation in 1978 and its restoration was later completed using parts from a class RL1c loco.
