How to visit the railway

The Yaxham Light Railway is not open to the general public, but is ideally situated to provide a unique experience for pre-booked parties and offers two ways of spending your day as follows.

A DAY OUT FOR EVERYONE

The scenic location and the laid back atmosphere of Yaxham is ideal for exploring this narrow gauge railway. From riding in a passenger coach hauled by a mixture of locomotives to hands on driving, we can offer an unique experience for everyone.

We are able to cater for any type of group, family or organised tour and can provide refreshments and a BBQ.

With our close association with the Mid Norfolk Railway we can include travel on the Dereham to Wymondham Line as part of the package, all organised by the YLR team.

A DRIVING EXPERIENCE WITH A DIFFERENCE

Under the guidance of the YLR team, you can drive a variety of diesel locomotives, hauling specially prepared trains.

Working to a specially prepared operating programme you can experience the various tasks involved with operating a complete railway.

Party bookings of eight or more people are welcome
